Trends for individual sea areas: Viking, North Utsire, South Utsire, Forties, Cromarty, Forth, Tyne, Dogger, Fisher, German Bight, Humber, Thames, Dover, Wight, Portland, Plymouth, Biscay, Trafalgar, Fitzroy, Sole, Lundy, Fastnet, Irish Sea, Shannon, Rockall, Malin, Hebrides, Bailey, Fair Isle, Faeroes, South-east Iceland.

Trends are derived from text analysis of Shipping Forecast data from the past year.

Average Wind Speeds By Area

Maximum and minimum wind speeds are determined from the largest and smallest numeric wind values quoted in each area forecast.

Average Area Wind Speed By Month

The average of the minimum and maximum wind speeds for each area (as defined above), for each month.

Average Visibility Classification By Area

Figures indicate the number of forecasts for each sea area which include the visibility keywords "very poor", "poor", "moderate", and "good", expressed as a percentage of the total. Forecasts may contain more than one of those keywords.

Average Visibility Rating By Area

Visibility ratings are calculated by allocating points to each area forecast depending on whether it mentions "very poor" (1 point), "poor" (2 points), "moderate" (3 points), or "good" (4 points). Where a forecast contains more than one of those keywords, an average rating is used.

Average Area Visibility Rating By Month

The average visibility rating (as defined above) for each area, for each month.

Average Gale Warnings By Area

Figures indicate the percentage of forecasts for each area which include a gale warning.

Average Gale Warnings By Month

Figures indicate the percentage of forecasts for all sea areas which include a gale warning.
